WHO WE ARE

View of Downtown Akron from the Innerbelt.

As Akron Mayor Donald Plusquellic spends $2 million dollars studying the feasibility of tearing the innerbelt down, a group of committed individuals are studying the feasibility of completing it. The Innerbelt Integration Initiative is a nonprofit organization seeking to further the infrastructural cohesiveness of the Akron Metropolitan area. Our chief goal is to retain the Innerbelt, while advocating its completion by sparking a public interest.

WHO USES THE INNERBELT?
You might be surprised!
The Innerbelt may have come short of its original purpose, but that isn't to say no one uses it. The Innerbelt is utilized by over eight million travelers yearly. If the Innerbelt was destroyed, over eight million trips would be diverted on other routes, further congesting Akron’s Interstate Highways.

OUR METHOD
Our methodology stems from the belief that everything should be viewed from the lens of history. To this end, we have acquired, retrieved, and scanned over 2,500 pages of interoffice memos, government and consultant reports, and minutes. Taking from those before us, whilst bringing with us a modern perspective, we have a vision of what must be done if the Innerbelt is to remain relevant through the 21st century.
